July 2023 Meeting
BELUG: Supporting Linux and open source for 19+ years.
The next BELUG meeting is September 12th at 6:30pm at the North Bellevue Community Center. The address is:
North Bellevue Community Center
4063 148th Ave NE
Bellevue, WA. 98007
Please come early, if you can, to help set up the room.
The meeting will follow our normal format with introductions all around, collecting technical questions to answer later, then any presentations, finishing with our best answers to the technical questions.
Last month we discussed these and other topics:
One member flashed open source firmware on both an IBM T440p (watch Install Coreboot on Thinkpad T440p) and a Dell e6400.
We spent some time discussion the Mblaze mail manipulation CLI tools. With CLI tools like this you can build shell scripts and cron
jobs to process you mail automatically.
Zoom seems to always find problems on different systems. One member could only get sound when external speakers were installed.
Our Apple hardware person has upgraded to Fedora 38 with better results.
Another member has been using Darktable to process his photographs. I hope he will give us a demo someday.
We also discussed using KVM's to connect to multiple computers. Here are to some of the KVM's that members use:
- IOGEAR 4-Port USB KVM Switch with Cables and Remote GCS24U, Black
- StarTech.com 4 Port Professional VGA USB KVM Switch with Hub - 1U Rack-mountable KVM Switch (SV431USB),Black
We took advantage of the Zoom breakout rooms and ended up with three parallel tracks, so Steve probably missed some of the work that happened in the other rooms.
One group discussed running their own mail server:
